Moshe teaches at the intersection of clown and zen, humor and mindfulness. His teaching methods evolve from his performing experiences, his teachers, and from his collaborations in the Zen world. With 25+ years as a workshop leader, he creates an atmosphere of concentrated lightness, a safe and clear pathway to explore the fun and the funny, reverence and irreverance, the absurdities and humorous impulses in life.

For clowns and performers, offering opportunities to explore, deepen and expand humorous expression, lightness, awareness and connection. Integrating a fair amount of Eastern influence (Butoh, Taoist Health Exercises, Shintaido, Kyogen) into clown and physical theater, the workshop asks participants to embody clown, to strengthen their connection to inner clown in order to expand their outward capacities.
Moshe’s clown teacher, Richard Pochinko, often said that workshops are simply opportunities to be in the clown zone. Indeed, the workshops main goals are to be actively clowning: being, exploring, enjoying, opening, expanding, deepening, embodying. Improvisational work in solo, duos, trios are essential vehicles in mapping out and developing the individual’s clown worlds. Moments are embodied and expanded using poetic aspects of Butoh dance. Formal stage/audience presentations occur, as well as spontaneous performance moments.

Humor and Lightness for the Workplace
Once titled Humor your Human, this workshop engages your sense of humor to develop skillful tools of expression and personal equilibrium. On the pathway is body and voice work (Qi-Gong, Feldenkrais, Roy Hart…) , focused play, butoh walks, solo, duo and trio improvisations, and a lot of fun and laughter. Drawing from the disciplines of physical theater, mime and clown, using filters of Zen and relational intelligence, participants develop a personal vocabulary in sharing lightness and humor. The workshops develop capacities in active presence, in-the-moment listening, emotional awareness, interaction, and connection. Develop personal strategies, tools, tiny rituals for stress release and resiliency.
(Positive) Humor is an act of generosity, a wish to uplift others, to enjoy a moment in connection. It need not be a whole act, often a glance with humor in one’s eyes is the most skillful tool of all. This workshop concept started in 1998 with Zen master Bernie Glassman seeking tools of tricksterdom, and has evolved into it’s own form. Moshe often offers this workshop as team trainings for diverse groups, from software engineers to social workers. More on the lightfulness website.
